This gorgeous model is a true 1/25 scale meaning it is 25x smaller than the actual spacecraft. Measures about 6.25 in' wide and 5 in' tall. On Display Stand about 6 in' wide and 6 in' tall on stand. Model features a removable door with intricate details on the interior and exterior of the model. Apollo: Carrying a three-person crew of Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins, the Apollo 11's Command Module capsule (named "Columbia") served as living quarters for the astronauts during its historic 1969 lunar landing mission. It was one of three parts of the complete Apollo spacecraft, along with the Service Module containing the propulsion system, and the Lunar Module (nicknamed, "Eagle") that descended upon the moon's service. The Command Module was the only portion of the spacecraft that returned to earth. Mission Highlights: In addition to being living quarters for the crew, the Command Module was tasked with bringing the astronauts safely back to earth. It splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969 at 12:49 PM ET, 812 nautical miles southwest of Hawaii, and 12 nautical miles from the USS Hornet, the aircraft carrier that hauled the capsule back to land.
